Hotel Finca Cortesin

Casares

This top class hotel, which recently opened, has already earned its place among the top of the best and most luxurious hotels situated on the Costa del Sol.
Very comprehensive, with a fantastic location and with every detail taken care of. Surrounded by one of the longest golf courses in Europe, where big and prestigious tournaments will be held, you will find that everything here will be to your heart's content. The entire complex has been created with space in mind, large and vast terraces with luxury sun loungers, 2 outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pools, large gardens, stunning views of the Mediterranean sea.
The hotel counts 67 spacious and modern suites, all with 1 or 2 bedrooms and a sitting area. Each room has its own terrace and some suites even have a small private swimming pool. It goes without saying that every suite comes with every conceivable facility.
We have received plenty of good reports about the exceptionally polite, efficient and super friendly staff.
There is also an indoor swimming pool and, just like the outdoor pools, it has an original colour scheme and is a good 25 metres long.
The spa: wonderful! Treat yourself to different types of massages, small warm baths for a nice dip, various saunas and ... you will experience one of the most exquisite wellness sensations ever in the snow grotto! What a fabulous experience, going straight from the sauna for a roll around in the snow at a temperature of -12 degrees.
And let's not forget the culinary department. The Dutch Michelin-starred chef Schilo van Coevorden has gained his knowledge and experience all over the world, where he has worked in top level positions. He currently delights the guests of Finca Cortesin with his culinary skills in his Restaurant Schilo, where his worldwide experience comes together in fusion-style cooking. Sophisticated Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and European influences are blended together to create spectacular, original and very delicious dishes. Apart from Restaurant Schilo, the hotel also accommodates a cosy Mediterranean restaurant for dishes with more of a Southern European character.
We are extremely enthusiastic and also very happy to be able to present Finca Cortesin on our website. This hotel really understands the meaning of pampering guests from arrival to departure!

Cons:
• We would gladly stay here for a fortnight to try to find any but so far none have come to our attention

Pros:
• New hotel but the use of plenty of old materials means that this hotel already has a lot of character. The combination of golf hotel and romantic hotel is also very appealing to us
• Large and spacious design
• A real 21st century hotel, plenty of modern facilities
• The hotel is surrounded by exquisite golf courses
• Super friendly staff
• Top in-house restaurant

surrounding area

Casares
Inland, hidden behind the coastal mountain range, there is a white village (pueblo blanco) that is definitely worth a visit: Casares. The drive up to Casares alone (first exit from Estepona), through a beautiful and varied landscape, is already worth it, but Casares’ setting exceeds all expectation. The village was built on top of a spectacular rock formation, surrounded by dramatic gorges. You can park your car at the entrance to the village, and venture into the village, with its narrow and steep streets, by foot. At the village’s highest points sits the old fortress with fine views of the surrounding area. On a clear day you can even see as far as the Rock of Gibraltar and the coast of Morocco.

Active
Casares location on the edge of the Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales makes it a great base from which to embark on walks, go horse riding and mountain biking. Apart from that, you can also play a game of tennis, and do some clay-pigeon shooting, hunting, fishing or ballooning.

Cultural
Casares is a white village on a route past the pueblos blancos (white villages). Other villages on this route include Zahara de la Sierra, which sits at the foot of the ruins of a castle, and which was recently proclaimed a national monument. And Grazalema, Setenil, Setenil and Jimena de la Frontera. In these white villages you will be able to get a taste of Spanish country life as it has been for centuries.

Family
Close to Estepona (23 km; 20min) you will find the Selwo Aventura safari park, with about 200 different animal species. Some animals can be seen from a 4x4 safari bus, or you can go on an adventurous walk across the park’s wire bridges (from the higher part of the park down to the bottom).
In Gibraltar (45 km; 45min) you can take the cable car from Main Street up to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar, where you can mingle with Europe’s last remaining wild monkeys, the tailless macaques. From Gibraltar you can also take a boat excursion into the bay of Algeciras to spot dolphins.

Nature
Tours by car past the Pueblos Blancos (white villages), on routes that take you through stunning scenery: mountains up to 1600m high, plateaus, valleys and gorges, rivers, waterfalls and reservoirs, forests and orchards.

Beach
A day at the beach is also an option. The beach at San Luis de Sabinillas is only 5km (5min) away.

The following villages/towns in the area are definitely worth a visit:
Gibraltar (45km; 45min):
The British occupied Gibraltar in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1713 Britain was granted the rock ‘forever’. A cable car will take you from the city centre up to the Top of the Rock, Gibraltar’s highest point (450m). Halfway up the rock, at the Apes’ Den, is where the tailless monkeys of Gibraltar live. These world-famous monkeys can be rather aggressive, so hold on to your bags and cameras.
At the top of the rock you can walk to St. Michael’s Cave. Other interesting sights at the top of the rock include the Upper Galleries, tunnels in the northern part of the rock that form part of Gibraltar's defences.

Ronda (60km; 1h):
Ronda has one of the most spectacular settings in all of Southern Spain. Due to this town’s unassailable location, it was one of the last standing Moorish bastions, which only fell in 1485, when it was conquered by the Christians. The town is split in two by a spectacular gorge, with the southern part being the classic Moorish pueblo blanco with cobblestone streets, small fences in front of the windows and whitewashed walls all around. The new town on the other side of the gorge contains the Plaza de Toros (bull ring), the cradle of bullfighting; it was built in 1785 and is one of Spain’s oldest. The bridge that connects the two parts of Ronda, the Puente Nuevo, spans the 100-metre-deep gorge and has become Ronda’s most famous feature, drawing in millions of visitors every year.

Tarifa (65km; 1h):
The Moorish town of Tarifa is on the eastern edge of the Costa de la Luz. This area is dominated by the many wind turbines lining the hill tops. It is a windy place, and hence also a great place for windsurfing. Tarifa is the Mecca of windsurfing! Windsurf and kitesurf fanatics are drawn to Tarifa and give the place an informal, alternative flair and atmosphere with their hippy-like attitudes and style.
Surfers dominate the flat beach of the Valle de Vaqueros, just north of Tarifa. This is where they flock to try out new techniques and materials, and is where new trends are born. It all makes for a fascinating spectacle, even if you are not into surfing.

And you can, of course, head for one of these world famous cities for a day trip:
Seville (220km; 2h30min):
The capital of Andalucía is a compact city with a rich past. Most of its major sights are in or near the city centre on the Guadalquivir river’s left bank. And they also know how to party and have a good time in this city of flamenco and tapas.
As you wander through the old Jewish quarter, the Barrio Santa Cruz, through a maze of white streets and patios, you should not forget to take in the imposing cathedral, the Moorish bell tower, La Giralda, and the royal palace Real Alcázar.
You can unwind in the María Luisa park, where you can spend the hottest part of the day under orange trees and palm trees.
The museum Museo de Bellas Artes, one of Spain’s best museums of art, is a real must. And then there are its magnificent palaces and other sights, such as the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza (bull ring); Casa de Pilatos and the Torre del Oro.

Granada (240km; 2h40min):
The Alhambra was the part of town where princes, nobility and court staff dwelled, on the hill right in the middle of Granada. The Alhambra is a huge complex, 720m in length and 220m wide. Clever use of space, light, water and decorative features are the Alhambra’s defining features.
On the hill opposite the Alhambra, the Albayzín quarter, is where Granada’s Moorish past is still most tangible. Stroll through its narrow streets, past villas with Moorish decoration and gardens, up to the Mirador de San Nicolás. This is where you will have the best views, of the roofs of Granada, with the Alhambra behind them, which makes for a stunning view, especially at sunset!
